Words of Truth from the Proverbs
You’ve probably noticed how the “mantra” of this culture seems to be “More, more, more”. Satisfaction is very seldom found in the lives of so many people in this culture. So many feel they would be satisfied if only they had, “just a little more”. The problem comes when they get just a little more and they realize they’re STILL not satisfied. So, their lives are filled with striving for more. And the more they have the more they want!
Proverbs 17:1 tells us:
Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.
It speaks of contentment. Being content with what you have rather than striving to continually gain.
Peace in our lives comes from our relationship with Christ and contentment with where we are in life. The Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 4:11-13,
11 …I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Is your life filled with strife and stress, trying to gain more and more in this life? Or have you come to the point of absolute surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ; finding your fulfillment – not in the things acquired in the world, but in the knowledge of your growing relationship with Him?
