Words of Truth from the Proverbs
Proverbs 18:1 tells us, “A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.
When God created man in the Garden God knew that it wasn’t good for man to be alone. God created us as social creatures. We were created to interact with others. So He also created woman.
When we interact with others our own personalities are formed and fashioned. There are checks and balances which come into play as we interact with society.
When we interact with the right people, we find that as iron sharpens iron, so one brother sharpens another (Prov. 27:17). BUT it is definitely important that we interact with the right people because the Bible also tells us that bad company corrupts good morals.
For us to live our lives isolated from other people is not only harmful for our own well-being, it also negates the very purpose we have as God’s redeemed people to impact our world for Christ. I can’t impact the world if I try to isolate myself totally from the world.
Wisdom tells us to build personal relationships with those who will encourage our faith and challenge us in our personal walk. That might be with a spouse, but it could also be with a brother or sister in Christ who would serve in discipling you along the journey.
Wise judgment tells us to seek the righteous and godly input of other Believers in our lives. The writer of Hebrews tells us to “…consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Heb. 10:24-25)
